  Discovery Camp Summit 2007
This years Discovery Camp Summit is back at the University of California San Diego’s 1,200 acre campus. UCSD is one of ten University of California campuses. Founded in 1960, UCSD is consistently ranked among the top ten public universities for undergraduate education in the United States.

Arrival Day
Campers arrived throughout the day. With beautiful weather, a beautiful campus and absolutely amazing friends- new and old- it was easy for campers to keep busy until the evening Discovery Camp Ball.

Day 1- Creating Resourseful States
Today was filled with enormous growth. Campers refined their current skills and strengthened their belief and knowing that- The first step to leadership is self leadership. They learned even more about perception, dealing with insecurities and were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone. Gary King spoke about the Power of Truth and used real life examples to show that there is no such thing as an inconsequential lie. Campers were given an Honesty Rocks watch and challenged to be honest with themselves and everyone they come in contact with for 24 hours.

Day 2- Building & Shaping Identities
Campers started their day with Team Olympics. As a group teams were awarded points based on leadership skills, fun, creativity, flexibility and team work. Teams were encouraged to work together to achieve common goals- how do we all win? Marlon then discussed with campers the Power of Choices. They shared ideas concerning a community of UNITY. Different leadership styles were discussed and campers participated in an interactive leadership game.

Day 3- Power of Personal Leadership
There were more Team Olympic tasks first thing in the morning. Shore Slocum stretched campers to look out of the box more. He finished up with inspiring them to discover their purpose and gift. Kathy Buckley, a deaf comedian who has overcome many challenges in life used humor to convey her messages. A few of the topics Kathy spoke about were- label and how it effects us a people, how to overcome challenges that you have no control of and about not judging others and accepting ourselves as human beings.

Day 4- Contribution Day & Graduation
Campers were given the opportunity to give back to the community. As a team they planted trees on campus. This provided many different meanings to each camper. Some of these were unity, growth, love, opportunity and dreams. As the tree grows not only will it become a resource for others, it is a symbol of hope while wthe campers grow as people.
