The Champions of Excellence

In 1991, The Champions of Excellence program was designed to improve the graduation rates and remove the financial barriers to higher education for a group of children in Houston, Texas. This innovative program supported ninety-two 5th grade students representing a multi-ethnic, urban inner-city neighborhood with mentoring services and full academic scholarships to four-year universities. The participating students were required to maintain a B average or above, be exemplary citizens, and annually contribute 50 hours of community service to remain in the program. Many of these students became outstanding leaders continuously maintaining a 3.0 GPA, collectively contributing more than 10,700 hours of community services, and participating in various live events and leadership programs offered by Tony Robbins and the Foundation.

From the original class of ninety-two students,16 students have attended various colleges and universities nationwide, receiving Associate, Under-Graduate and Graduate Degrees. Two students are currently enrolled in courses, continuing their path of academic growth. The Champions of Excellence program is an outstanding example of the Foundation's commitment to promoting academic excellence and providing opportunities for at-risk students to reach their fullest potential.
